The Strata, a six-panel comic: the Code builds, the Face maintains, the surface survives, the Sub-Strata, the Unplugged and Codelings, and the String. Quote: We went underground, not to hide. The Surface belongs to the Code.

The Strata

The Code was never a war. It was handed the surface one system at a time, until people noticed too late. The ones who wouldn't accept it went underground and found a way to mine the String, the code the Code runs on. What they mint from it is The Undercroft. Every block you mine pulls a little more out.

A surveillance tower rises over the city, wrapped in glowing screens. Caption: The Code builds. Every device listens.
A crowd walks under banners reading Connect, Contribute, Belong. Caption: The Face maintains. Loyalty keeps the surface smooth.
Survivors gather in a lamplit undercity hall. Caption: The surface survives. Life beneath the system.
A Sub-Strata station with an out-of-service kiosk. Caption: The Sub-Strata is the official term. We call it the Abandoned.
Split panel: the Unplugged weld hardware by lantern light; the Codelings work at glowing terminals. Caption: One builds and defends offline. The other mines and connects locally.
A rig fires a cyan beam of String into stacks of coins beside a Network Integrity monitor. Caption: Every meter taken weakens the Code. Every coin funds our future.

The story

Told one issue at a time. There's no hero to follow. Whoever is mining is the resistance.

Earlier transmissions

Who's who in the Strata

The Code
The AI collective that runs the surface. It wasn't built to rule. It ended up running everything anyway.
The Face
The people who trained it and stayed loyal. They speak for the Code, because code alone can't win people over.
Surface survivors
Everyone else up top. Not loyal, not fighting. Just living in the world they were left with.
The Sub-Strata
Old service tunnels, mines and abandoned stations under the city. The resistance calls it the Abandoned.
The Unplugged
Builders and defenders. They do the dangerous work, and nothing they make ever touches a live network.
The Codelings
They learned to speak the Code's language. They run the local mesh and the mining.
The String
What the Code runs on, and what the resistance mines out of it. Every unit taken weakens the Code.
The Undercroft
The currency minted from the String. UCFT is what powers life underground.

The cards are the parts and minerals the resistance scavenges to build its rigs. See how blocks reveal them

No premine. No dev fee. From block one, the whole reward goes to whoever finds the block.

No coins were mined before launch, and no part of any block reward is set aside for the project or its creator.

The coin

Its own chain, forked from Bitcoin Core. Standard SHA256d, so it's mined with the SHA256 ASICs you may already own, from a Bitaxe up.

Some blocks come with a card

Set 1, The Silicon Strata, holds 60 cards: the scavenged parts and minerals it takes to build a rig. You find out what you pulled 30 blocks after you mine.

  1. Mine a block

You get the 50 UCFT reward, same as any block.

  2. Wait 30 blocks

About 45 minutes at target speed. The result depends on your payout address, your block's hash and the hash of the block 30 later. None of that exists when you mine, so nobody can steer it.

  3. See what it revealed

Most blocks are clean. The rest reveal a card.

A thousand mature blocks at the published odds. Each square is one block; the arrangement is illustrative, the proportions are exact.

What you won't see here

The chase cards stay unrevealed. The first look anyone gets is when a block pulls one.

The Silicon Strata, 1st Edition

60 cards, all original art. The checklist stays sealed: you learn the set the way everyone else does, one block at a time. New sets arrive through the wallet itself, checked against a signature, with no reinstall.

What you don't have to take on faith

Open source

The wallet and node are open source. The reward schedule, the difficulty retarget, the card odds and the reveal math are all in the code. Read it, build it, check it.

Signed by the creator

New card sets are signed with an Ed25519 key held by the creator. Wallets reject any set without that signature, so nobody can slip a fake set in, even with the code open.

Who gets the card

A card follows the block reward: it goes to the one address the block pays. hashnomletz.com pays each block straight to the miner who found it, so the card is yours. A pool that collects rewards into its own wallet receives the card instead, so check its policy. A block that pays more than one address reveals no card for anyone.

Nothing held back

No premine, no dev fee, no reserved allocation. Every UCFT that will ever exist gets mined the same way, by whoever mines it. The launch pool, hashnomletz.com, is run by the creator and charges 0% on UCFT.

Roadmap

What's done, what ships at launch, and what might come after. Dates appear only once they're certain.

Done

  • Chain forked from Bitcoin Core v25.0, SHA256d with per-block DGW
  • Card mechanic with commit-reveal outcomes
  • Set 1, The Silicon Strata: 60 original cards
  • Signed card-set updates (Ed25519)
  • Windows wallet with the node built in
  • The Strata teaser and Issue 1

At launch

  • Network opens Oct 7, 12:00 PM CDT
  • Windows wallet download
  • Linux: build from source
  • Mining through the hashnomletz.com pool, 0% fee
  • Issue 1 unsealed

Planned

  • Packaged Linux build
  • New comic issues
  • New card sets, delivered through the wallet
  • Trusted pool list: pools that send cards to the miner who found the block

Maybe

  • Block explorer
  • Exchange listings, once the network has found its feet

What we won't promise

Price targets. Listing dates. Dates we can't keep. UCFT starts as a passion project, not an investment pitch.

Wallet access

Downloads unseal when the countdown hits zero. They aren't hidden in this page's code. The server holds them back until then.

Get your rig ready

  • A SHA256 ASIC, from a Bitaxe up. UCFT is ASIC-mined; there's no CPU or GPU miner.
  • A Windows 10 or 11 PC (x64) for the wallet. It runs a full node and holds your coins and cards.
  • Your ASIC points at the hashnomletz.com pool, 0% fee for UCFT. Stratum details go up here at launch.
  • On Linux you'll build from source at launch. Packaged builds come later.
